If you’re not sure which card to choose, we can help! In this blog post, we’ll discuss the origins of tarot cards and provide a list of some of our favorite tarot card necklaces.
History of Tarot Cards
Tarot cards have a fascinating history that can be traced back to northern Italy during the late 14th century. This type of card game was presumably inspired by popular games from that era, such as chess and other types of trick-taking card games. The oldest existing set, known as the Visconti-Sforza deck, is believed to have been crafted in the 15th century for the Duke of Milan’s noble family. This tarot deck contains Triumphs cards which are used for various playing and divination purposes. These factual details about tarot cards demonstrate just how long this ancient game has remained part of our lives over the centuries.
Tarocchi was developed in Italy in the mid-15th century and eventually spread to other European countries, including southern France. There, the game was renamed tarot and attracted a small following of card players. It wasn’t until the late 18th century that tarot cards became associated with mysticism due to publications from theologian Antoine Court de Gébelin and occultist Jean-Baptiste Alliette. De Gébelin wrote a book linking the cards to ancient Egyptian lore, specifically mentioning Thoth as their source of secret wisdom, while Alliette published a treatise about using tarot for divination purposes under the pseudonym Etteilla. His work sparked an interest in tarot’s spiritual elements, transforming it from popular game into factual tool to seek out advice.
Tarot Card Meanings
Each Card has it’s own meaning. They include the Tarot’s Major Arcana and Minor Arcana. The Major Arcana of the tarot pack are mysterious cards filled with deep symbolism and wisdom. Twenty-two in number, these trump cards can offer insight into our lives if we take time to ponder their meanings. From 0 (the Fool) all the way up to 21 – each card holds a secret message!
There are various types of Tarot decks. The 78-card deck was a popular form of entertainment and a way to gain insight into one’s future. One of our favorites is the Alester Crowley Deck. It is rather large, but the cards are magnificent. Painted by an artist and rendered into Tarot cards. A truly beautiful and meaningful deck. Each card has a distinct meaning, which can be interpreted differently depending on the context and situation. For example, The Tower card can represent a chaotic upheaval or a period of transformation and growth.
Tarot as a Gift
There are many ways to celebrate the Tarot as a gift. You could give your friend a necklace with a pendant representing her favorite tarot card. Or maybe she would enjoy a bracelet with charms depicting all 78 cards in the deck. You could also find rings, earrings, or even cufflinks that feature beautiful designs inspired by tarot readings. No matter what type of jewelry you choose, it will be sure to make a statement and show your friend how much you appreciate her interest in this ancient tradition.
Selecting a Card
When selecting a tarot card necklace as a gift, think about your friend’s personality and interests and the relationship you have. Does she like traditional jewelry styles? You may want to choose a card with an engraved Major Arcana card symbol such as The Sun or The Star. Or maybe she loves modern pieces? Consider a metal pendant or oil painting version with a colorful representation his or her favorite card.
